PAL's Navigation
For our first trip, we "roughed it" in the Angeles Forest. We carried heavy packs filled with camping supplies, food, and additional clothing. When we reached the Cooper Canyon campgrounds we set up our tents and unpacked. Then it was time to get some purified water from the local stream and gather wood for the evening bonfire. We gathered wood by collecting branches, sticks, and twigs from a fallen tree nearby. We broke the smaller branches with our hands and feet and broke the larger ones against a jagged rock. The hot day hike turned into a cool swim at Cooper Canyon Falls natural pool and then an exploration expedition of the creek beds. The night hike allowed us to see millions of stars in a vast, dark sky along with hundreds of scorpions on the hiking trail. A rattle snake was found dangerously close to Det. McPhail's tent. Campfire stories, clean fresh air, and fun memories!

Yosemite was beautiful, full of colorful landscapes, and was new to every PAL member who attended. Upon our arrival at the May Lake Campgrounds trailhead, the thunder roar was ominous and the lightening ripped through the sky. As we were unloading the truck and preparing to hike up to the campgrounds, the skies dumped hail and rain for the next 30 minutes. At the campgound, we saw two deer drinking from the lake's edge. The deer ran off into the forest as we entered camp. In the days following, we hiked up Mount Hoffman, visited "Half Dome", Yosemite Falls, and Bridaveil Falls to name a few.

July 26, 2006: Boeing Representative Presents Check for $3,000 for the Purchase of a Dance Floor

Boeing Company retiree and Long Beach Police Department Senior Police Partner Betty Buffington presented the $3,000 check to Detective Brian McPhail on Wednesday. PAL members surrounded the two for the photo in the Karate/Dance room at South Street PAL.
The Dance program began in early 2006 with "Latin Lounge" and "Hip-Hop Styles". With a few movie releases showcasing "Ballroom Style" dancing and inner-city youth, PAL hopes to provide its membership with the same rewarding opportunities.
